Abstract

Malocclusion is a result of an interaction between genetics and environmental factors; therefore, uncovering the degree of their impact on malocclusion, will upgrade the treatment plan and outcome as well. Generally, genetics has major impact on skeletal development and minor on dental malocclusion which is mainly controlled by environmental factors. This case study is distinctive in reporting an identical dental crossbite, concentrated in the upper right central incisor, in female monozygotic twins, nine years old and healthy with no history of bad oral habits. Upper removable appliance with Z spring was used for treatment of anterior crossbite; which had been corrected after approximately four months. The similarity recorded in malocclusion and dental measurements might be interpreted by genetic impact on monozygotic twin.
