Abstract

Introduction: In health care institutions around the world, the implementation of some more complicated equipment and complete medical progress leads to a rise in generated waste per client. It is the responsibility of the health care facility and health care providers to safeguard the health of employees associated with the handling, logistics, and treatment of biomedical waste, so the research project identifies the knowledge related to biomedical waste management and utilization practices at hospital settings. Aim: The main aim of the study was to assess the knowledge on Biomedical waste management before and after administering structured teaching programme among B. Sc Nursing I year Students at selected nursing college, puducherry. Methodology: One group pretest, posttest, pre-experimental research design study was conducted among B. Sc Nursing I Year students at selected nursing college, Puducherry. Sample size was 70, selected through non-probability convenience sampling technique. An Evaluative research approach was used in this study. The data was collected through interview schedule from the subjects regarding their demographic variables. The Semi structured questionnaire was used to assess the level of knowledge about biomedical waste management among B. Sc Nursing I Year students. Result And Conclusion: The Frequency and percentage distribution of pretest level of knowledge among the B. Sc Nursing I Year students about Biomedical Waste Management, majority of 37 (52.85%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 33(47.14%) had inadequate knowledge and none of the nursing students had adequate knowledge. The Frequency and percentage distribution of posttest level of knowledge among the B. Sc Nursing I Year students about Biomedical waste management, majority of 37 (52.85%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 33(47.14%) had adequate knowledge and none of the nursing students had inadequate knowledge. comparison of pretest and posttest knowledge shows that 33(47.14%) had inadequate knowledge (pretest score) and none of the nursing students had inadequate knowledge (post test score).
