Abstract

Background: A critical component in the measurement of quality of care is patient satisfaction. In healthcare, the outcome of care is measured by the Satisfaction of the patients. Nursing services are one of the most important components of hospital service, understanding how things are looking through the patient’s eye should be a central part of quality improvement. The patients' satisfaction with nursing care quality evaluates the met and unmet needs of patients enables them to identify the gap in nursing interventions, and helps to uplift the care quality within the organization. Nurses are the health care providers who monitor and take care of the patients round the clock in a hospital, and they are the key members of the health care team who facilitate the hospitalized patients to adapt. Nursing staffs are more likely to have difficulty in dealing with adult patients who have severe problems in clinical practice. This study will determine general surgery patients‟ satisfaction with nursing care in the surgical ward and ICU. Objective: 1) To assess the level of satisfaction regarding the quality of nursing care among post-operative patients. 2) To find out the association between the level of satisfaction regarding the quality of nursing care among post-operative patients with their selected socio-demographic variables. Method: In this study, a descriptive survey approach was used. Simple random sampling is used and the study was 100 adult patients who were admitted to the surgical ward of TMU Hospital Moradabad, UP. The total period of sample collection was from 7th February 2022 to 15th February 2022. The data collection tool used for the study was a form of Dr. Laschinger’s- “Patient Satisfaction with quality nursing care questionnaire” (PSNCQQ), translated into Hindi language. The collected data was organized in the master data sheet and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics as per the objectives of the study, using SPSS version 20. Result:- The total of the sample was 100. The age of the sample ranges from 24-73 with a mean age of 42.43, SD= 12.52, the majority of the sample was from the age group 30-40 and only 1% were from the age group > 70. Distribution of sample according to gender. The majority of the sample was female (51%) and only (49%) in Male sample. distribution of sample according to Religion. The majority of the sample was Hindu (61%) and only (39%) in the Muslim sample. distribution of the sample by Marital status. Majority of sample were Married (85%) and (8%) were unmarried,(7%) were widowed. the majority of the sample had secondary education(37%), only (10%) had no formal education, and 0% in other qualifications. the distribution of the sample by type of family. The majority of the sample was Nuclear families (59%) and only 41% in joint families. the distribution of the sample by occupation, the majority of the sample 39% were housewife and only 5% were in the government job. The majority of samples (31%) were RS 15001-20000 and only 16% were under Rs 10001-RS 15000. The study shows that there is no association between patient satisfaction with demographic variables, hence, H1 is rejected. Conclusion: Based on based on the study findings, Patient satisfaction is the most important key to evaluating the quality of nursing care in most countries. With the help of patient feedback about nursing care will help the institute to develop new strategies and plan to improve the quality of patient care and achieve 100% compliance in patient satisfaction.
