Abstract

The thyroid gland is the endocrine gland that produces the hormone called thyroxin. Thyroxins maintain heart rate, consumption of oxygen from body cells and tissues, and maintain heat in the body. Infection of the thyroid gland is called thyroiditis which may result from many associated causes and risk factors. Autoimmunity causes the thyroid gland to underwork and may result in the accumulation of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) because the pituitary gland regulates the thyroid gland by secreting TSH and stimulating the thyroid gland. This condition is called Hashimoto's disease. Signs and symptoms of this disease may vary in an individual's name, including fatigue, lethargy, constipation, smoothly enlarged thyroid gland, etc. the treatment modalities may include lifelong administration of the hormone.
