Video Game Addiction among College Students in Bangladesh

Abstract

Objectives: The objective of the study was to assess video game addiction among college students in Bangladesh. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at Sharonkhola Govt. Degree College, Bagerhat, Bangladesh from July 2022 to June 2023. 112 participants were recruited using a convenient sampling method. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires. After data collection, it was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: It was found that nearly one-third (27.7%) of the students are addicted to video games. Student’s age; gender; family type; day gaming frequency; duration of playing mobile games; time of playing the mobile game; year of the class; and smartphone use starting age were significantly associated with video game addiction. Conclusion: The study findings produce baseline information that can be used in formulating evidence-based public health policies in the country and is expected to help mental health nurses reduce addiction among college students.
