Background of the Study: The pre-operative anxiety is the most difficult experience that is faced by the patients that are undergoing surgeries. There is delayed recovery due to the increased level of preoperative anxiety in the patients undergoing surgery. The present study is aimed to assess the level of anxiety of pre-operative patients undergoing surgery which is measured by Hamilton scale. Objectives: 1. To assess the level of anxiety related to surgery among preoperative patients 2. To find out the association between anxiety and selected demographic variables of preoperative patients. Methodology: Quantitative evaluative approach was adopted to assess the level of anxiety among pre-operative patients at Shri J.G.Co-Operative hospital Ghataprabha. The study was performed with 30 pre-operative patients of selected Shri J. G. Co-Operative hospital. The subjects were selected by non-probability convenient method. The tool used for data collection was modified Hamilton scale. Data analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics appropriate to achieve the set of objectives. Results: The study reveals that the mean level of pre-operative anxiety among patients was 24.2 with SD of 4.196 with mean percentage 43.21%. In present study, majority i.e., 50% of patients had Mild -Moderate anxiety, 36% of patients had Moderate-Severe anxiety, and 6.66% of patients had no anxiety-Mild anxiety and remaining 6.66% of patients were having Very severe anxiety. Interpretation and conclusion: The present study concluded that majority 50% of the patients had mild moderate anxiety and there was no association between demographic variables and pre-operative anxiety.
