Abstract

The postnatal period refers to the 6 weeks period after childbirth. A woman in the puerperium already has a lot of changes in the body and mind, that is too affected by covid-19 scenario triggers to face terrific challenges. The objective of the study was to explore the lived-in experiences among postnatal mothers during the pandemic. A qualitative approach and phenomenological research design were adopted. The total samples of 15 were selected through non-probability purposive sampling techniques. The data were collected through a one-one in-depth interview method by using open-ended questionnaires. The data were analyzed & interpreted based on the recorded verbatim which was transcribed & coded. The study findings were explored based on 7 sub-themes which include physical issues, psychological, family coping, financial issues, stress, sleep, and follow-up. Most of the postnatal mothers said that they have taken more rest and sleep. The majority of the mothers experienced they got more family support, fear, guilt, and anxiety. Few participants had been isolated at home. The present study revealed the lived-in experiences of mothers during the pandemic faced a lot of challenges in nutritional status, sleeping pattern, physical activities, fear of spread, financial burden & emotional changes. Hence, nurses have an important role in planning an interventional protocol for managing postnatal mothers to prevent and overcome stress is essential to safeguard the mother and fetal health.
