A Descriptive Study to Assess the Knowledge of B. Sc. Nursing Students Regarding HIV/AIDS at Selected Colleges of Punjab

The human immunodeficiency virus is a retro virus that causes AIDS / HIV by infecting immune T cells. The most common serotype, HIV-1 is being spread worldwide, while HIV-2 is most prevalent in west Africa also called HIV. AIDS stands for immune immunodeficiency syndrome. AIDS is a place where your body can no longer fight off infections and illness. It is the result of HIV destroying the blood cells that fight infection. The main aim of the study to assess the knowledge of B.Sc. Nursing students regarding HIV/AIDS. A Quantitative non-experimental descriptive research approach and design, and convenient sampling technique is used to select 40 sample of general population. Study was conducted in State institute of nursing and paramedical sciences, Badal, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Punjab. Demographic variables, self structured questionnaire to check the knowledge of B.Sc. Nursing students regarding HIV/AIDS-The collected data was analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics which revealed that out of 40 students that 65.0% students have average level of knowledge, 35.0% students have good level of knowledge. The association between knowledge and selected demographic variables is statistically non-significant at 0.05 level of significance. The general population have average level of knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS.
