A Study to Assess the Knowledge, Attitude and Knowledge on Preventive Measures on Sexual Abuse among Mothers in Rural Area

Background: Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) is a complex and complicated phenomenon that exists in every society and affects the children’s more and there is a significant increase in the cases reported. Most of them still remain under the iceberg. Identified cases has brought to the highlight of child sexual abuse prevention educational programmes in various settings would have decreased the incidence of child sexual abuse to some extent. Develop the child sexual awareness programme to the parents and insist to participate. Then only they can able to know about the child sexual abuse and they will be aware and Children’s need the education regarding good touch and bad touch. Nowadays the child sexual abuses were increased in rates. Globally, the prevalence rate of the child sexual abuse for females 19.7% and 7.9 % males affected. Mostly, the child sexual abuse involved 30% of the child relatives and especially father, uncle and grandfather in the family. Approximately 60% of the cases were acquaintance persons. Aim: This study was aimed to assess the knowledge and knowledge on preventive measures on child sexual abuse among mothers. Methodology: A Quantitative Descriptive Survey research design was used. 100 mothers were selected by using convenient sampling technique that fulfilled the inclusion criteria and mothers who were present at the time of data collection and who were willing to participate in the study at selected area, Puducherry. Data was collected by using the structured questionnaire. Result: This study assessed the knowledge and knowledge on preventive measures of child sexual abuse among mothers. The analysis of the study revealed that most of the mothers had 84 % moderate level of knowledge regarding child abuse, 3% adequate knowledge and 13 % inadequate knowledge and about 95% of them had good knowledge on preventive measures on child sexual abuse, 5% average knowledge on preventive measures. Conclusion: The study concluded majority of mothers had moderate knowledge about child sexual abuse and had good knowledge on preventive measures on child sexual abuse. The analysis of the study revealed that most of the mothers had 84% of moderate knowledge. 94% good knowledge on preventive measures among mothers.
