Neo Vagina: A Treatment Modality for Amenorrhoea
Abstract
Most girls begin menstruating between ages 9 and 18, with an average of around 12 years old. Absence of a functional vagina can lead to primary and secondary amenorrhea. It can cause serious psychological, emotional, and social impact on the young girls and leads to tremendous suffering. Vaginal atrisia was known since Hippocrates period, Columbus was perhaps the first person to describe the congenital absence of vagina in the year 1559. Dupuytrens (1817) identified vaginal plasty using tampons; Abbe (1898) identified mould with split thick skin graft.
