The tongue-controlled wheelchair is a smart technology, introduced for paraplegic people and quadriplegic people to improve their standard of living. The control system is incorporated into the headgear and the powered wheelchair can be operated as desired in accordance with the commands. The tongue motion sensors used are piezoelectric sensors which sense the tongue movements and thus trigger the voltage signal, which are then processed by the arduino. The five sensors used represent the forward, backward, right, left and halting of the wheelchair. The Bluetooth transmitter is positioned on the arm rest of the
wheelchair and sends these commands to the Bluetooth receiver which is placed in the wheelchair. In case of emergency, a push button switch is also integrated into the headset which activates the call in order to alert the caretaker.
