Comparative Analysis between Ride-Sharing Services: An Empirical Study from Emerging Market

Abstract

This paper tries to explore the comparative analysis between two different ride-share services especially Uber and Pathao operating currently in Bangladesh. Different time points, number of available rides and ride fare are the key three parameters collected for seven consecutive days for twelve times in a day and customer satisfactions’ data are collected from 100 respondents using random sampling method. It is found in the study that there is no existence of significant deviations in car ride fare between Uber and Pathao but ride fare is identified higher in Pathao than that of Uber using t-test analysis. The empirical evidence also presents a significant differences in availability of vehicles between Uber and Pathao.

The study further identifies that the number of cars are significantly higher in Uber whilst the number of bikes are higher in Pathao. Moreover, it is found in the study that the availability of vehicles shows negative correlation with riding fare for Uber. Also for Uber, the study demonstrates that availability of car shows negative correlation with different time points and positive for motto. However, the study also shows there is no significant association between ride fare and availability of vehicles with different time points for Pathao. It is also found from the analysis of questionnaire that people prefer Uber to Pathao in Dhaka city based on the cleanliness, comfort and availabity of vehicles as also as around 86% respondents have suggested Uber service over Pathao service.
