Factors Influencing the Employee Motivation in the Public Health Institutions: A Case of Wonsho Woreda, Sidama Regional State, Ethiopia

Abstract

Motivation is vital role in both public and private sector. Employee motivation helps to achieve organizational goal easily. The aimed of this research was to examine factors affecting employees’ motivation at wonsho woreda public health institutions, financial issues, occupation growth, development, recognition, promotion, training and development, co-work and PHCU director relationship, work condition and balanced score card. Descriptive type of research design was used to interpret numerical information. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaire from 128 respondents. The researcher employed purposive sampling techniques strategically and then since the respondents were heterogeneous. Focus group discussions were also held with case team coordinators and PHCU directors of two health facilities of wonsho woreda public health institutions to collect qualitative data. quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as percentages, frequency, mean, and standard deviation to clarify the demographic characteristic of respondents and inferential statistics like Based on the findings of this study all influencing factors have a positive and statistically significant correlation with employee motivation. Multiple linear regression analysis (the R-square value) was 0.753 which means 75.3 % variability of the employee motivation is explained by the variability of the independent variables i.e. financial issues, occupation growth and development, recognition, promotion, training and development, co-work and PHCU director relationship, work condition and balanced score card to employee motivation. The researcher therefore suggests that, wonsho woreda should give attention to these influencing factors to take-out employee motivation effective.
