Ethical Hacking: A Pursuit for Safer Data

Abstract

"Hackers are geniuses because they can control the entire globe with the press of a button, not because they are intelligent. ", a famous tech expert, Michael L once said. This one statement easily sums up the importance and influence of hacking, either ethical or unethical, on modern technological world. Today's world is a world of technology with billions and trillions of data flowing over internet. Such huge amount of data is very hard to trace and keep record of due to which certain important and sometimes confidential data is always at the risk of malicious access which can cause considerable damage to classified resources. People able to access any sort of classified or sensitive data which is generally hard for a common man to access are known as 'hackers' and the process of doing so is known as 'unethical hacking'.

In today's scenario hacking is always thought as a criminal or unethical act because of constant threat to privacy and important credentials. Hence a situation arises where the notorious activities of hackers needs to be checked and tracked, this task is performed by  skilled tech people who keep check on various gateways and back doors through which data flow takes place and prevent the data from any unauthorized access like hacking. Such community of people is known as 'ethical hackers' and this entire process is known as 'ethical hacking’. In simple words ethical hacking is a method of finding weaknesses and vulnerabilities of a system before a professional hacker finds it and uses any important data in a wrong intention. Hence ethical hacking and hacking are very similar but the main difference is the intention and motive. The main motive of unethical hacking is breaching and misusing a classified and important data whereas the motive of ethical hacking is to prevent the important data to fall in wrong hands. Hence the importance of ethical hacking can be clearly understood. In my paper I have highlighted all the dimensions of ethical hacking and tried to put a light on its importance on modern world. In this paper I have tried to acknowledge that ethical hacking is now an indispensable part of our life and that safe and sensible ethical hacking can prevent an uncalculated amount of data and resource’s loss.
