A Co-relational Study to Determine the Knowledge on Nutrition and Nutritional Status of School Children with a view to Conduct Nutrition Awareness Programme in Selected Primary Schools of Mangalore

Abstract

Introduction: Children are the first call agenda of human development. Proper nutrition leads to a healthier body. Proper intake of food in right proportion provides the right kind of nutrition for health. Nutrition is one of the indispensable factors that are closely associated with the physical and mental development of young children.

Materials And Methods: In this correlational study a non experimental descriptive correlative approach is used and theresearch design, to achieve the objectives of this study is descriptive correlative design. The study was conducted at the primary school at Mulki, Mangalore a sample of 100 school children were selected for the study from Vth, VIth, VIIth standards using purposive sampling technique. The investigator explained the purpose of nutritional awareness programme, and nutritional assessment of the school children.

Conclusion: The findings of the study showed that school children had poor level of knowledge regarding the nutrition and varying degrees of malnutrition. The result also revealed that there was a significant positive correlation between school children knowledge on nutrition and their nutritional status.
