Eating Behaviors of the Adolescents: A Description

Abstract

Background and Objective: The study aimed to assess adolescent dietary habits and factors influencing their food choices and eating behaviors among adolescent students Methods: A descriptive Cross sectional study was conducted among 100 purposively selected adolescent of age group 13-19 years in Kathmandu valley and were analyzed using quantitative research methodology. Results: Most of the (33%) were of age 15. More than half (66%) of the respondents were female. Around 60% of the students studied in class 10.Majority (73%) of respondents ate homemade food. Likewise, 39% adolescents took food twice a week outside home. About half (56%) of them thought that they eat healthy. Majority (66%) of respondents preferred to have physical education classes at school. Most (60%) of the adolescents read or followed media concerning diet issues. Majority (66%) of students were agreed that reading has influence on food choice. Conclusion: The study concludes that majority of the adolescents lack the healthy eating behavior. It is benefitted that the teaching adolescents good eating habits at an early age to growth.
