Abstract

Road traffic safety refers to the methods and measures used to prevent road users from being killed or seriously injured. Road safety is a multi-sectoral and multidimensional subject. It includes orderly development and management of roads, provision of safer vehicles, and a comprehensive response to accidents. Road safety is an issue of national concerns, considering its magnitude and gravity and the consequent negative impacts on the economy. The evaluative study was conducted using one group pre-test and post-test research design. The aim of the study is to assess the knowledge regarding road safety measures among adolescent boys in selected schools in rural areas of Anichakuppam, Tamil Nadu. A sample of 40 adolescent boys were involved in this study. Convenience sampling technique was used to select the samples. Data was collected with the self- administered questionnaire. The planned teaching was given to the students by using the planned teaching module. The overall knowledge of adolescent boys reveals that 25(62.5%) of subjects had inadequate knowledge and 15(37.5%) had moderately adequate knowledge. The post-test knowledge 32.0(88.97%) was apparently higher than the pre-test mean score 19.6(54.53%). This indicates that the planned teaching program was effective as there was a significant gain in the knowledge score.
