A Study to Assess the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Environmental Sanitation Among Adults Residing in Selected Rural Areas of Tirunelveli District

Abstract

Environmental sanitation envisages promotion of health of the community by providing clean environment and breaking the cycle of disease. But India is still lagging far behind many countries in the field of environmental sanitation which needs sanitary awakening. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of environmental sanitation among adults and to associate it with the selected demographic variables. The descriptive research design was adopted with a convenience sampling technique for hundred samples from selected rural areas of Tirunelveli district. Structured questionnaire were used and analysis was done using descriptive & inferential statistics. Among them majority (63%) of people had moderate level of knowledge, 80% of them had positive attitude towards cleanliness but only 25% of them had good sanitary practice.
