Comparing the Social Adjustment Among the School Going Children with and Without Extracurricular Activities

Background - Human is a social animal so he/she needs society for his/her survival. Social adjustment is a psychosocial process it is one type of effort made by needs of any adjustment of society. A comparative study to assess the social adjustment between school going children with and without extracurricular activities in a selected school. Objectives- The main objective of the study was to assess the social adjustment between the school going children (11-14) years with and without extracurricular activities. Methods: Quantitative approach with comparative research design was adopted. Total 200 children were selected, children with extracurricular activities(n=154), children without extracurricular activities(n=46). for the study using simple random sampling technique. The tools used to collect the data were as follows: (1) Demographic questionnaire, (2) Self structured questionnaire for social adjustment. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Result: The mean for children with extracurricular activities is 24.298and children without extracurricular activities is 24.298. df of children with extracurricular activities is 153and df of children without extracurricular activities is 46. The unpaired t test value is 29.509 with p value 0.00001. Hence student with extracurricular activities is more socially adjustable than student without extracurricular activities. at the end of the study found that students with extracurricular activities have higher level of social adjustment as compare to students without extracurricular activities. So, the schools should add extracurricular activities in their curriculum.
