Power electronic devices offer compact size with higher efficiency, but on the other side, due to their switching actions, these devices act as non-linear loads; which create power quality problems such as voltage sag/swell, flickers, harmonics, interruption, impulse transient, asymmetry of voltages, etc. in the power systems. Failure due to power quality problems in modern power electronic-based industrial equipment hampers the production cost. Hence nowadays power quality enhancement has become a priority in modern industries. This paper presents the role of UPQC in the enhancement of power quality in three-phase distribution systems as it compensates for all the voltage as well as current quality problems simultaneously. The performance of the proposed control system has been analyzed using MATLAB simulation for different load types and different PQ problems like voltage unbalance, single phasing, voltage sag, and total harmonic distortion.
