Abstract

Electrical power is one of the most important factors for economic development. It plays a major role in the creation of an economic environment that influences decisions on potential investment. Mass production of inverters and batteries leads to improving the life of citizens and helps to make technological development move forward. This paper presents an electric power system of (220V, 7A) using a voltage source inverter (VSI), current source inverter (CSI), and z-source inverter (ZSI) powered by a bank of gel batteries (48v, 200A.h) which can be charged from PV modules. The main objective of this project is to verify which type of inverter is the most suitable for generating 1540W with minimum values of total harmonics distortion (THD), smaller size, and lower cost. The inductors and capacitors of the DC link have been chosen based on precise calculations. PID controller and SPWM technique are used to stabilize the output voltage under different loads and battery conditions. A passive filter is connected to the inverter output to reject the high-order harmonics and passes the fundamental frequency. Simulation results in MATLAB/Simulink proved that the z-source inverter has high voltage boost ability with a short shoot-through duty ratio with the minimum values of the total harmonics distortion in addition to the cost-effective and smaller size. The performance of the proposed ZSI is confirmed by the simulation results.
