Wearable Antenna with Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) Structure for WBAN
Keywords:

A wearable antenna with semicircular ring slot patch with Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG)
structure is proposed for wireless body area network (WBAN). The measured impedance
bandwidth for this antenna lies between 2.2-2.98GHz. The return loss measured is -42.68.
The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) for 1 gram of tissue is 0.348W/kg and for 10gram of
tissue is 0.368W/kg. The SAR value is calculated using CST software. The SAR is calculated
by placing the semicircular ring resonator antenna with the electromagnetic band gap
structure in the hand. The specific absorption rate (SAR) calculated values for tissue in 1 g
(for US standard) and 10 g (for Europe standard) are both less than the limitations. In
conclusion, it is very much advisable to use the proposed antenna in wearable applications.
