Abstract

Geo-textiles are permeable textile structures made of polymeric materials and mostly used in Mechanical engineering works and Machine designe. The most important factors in the manufacturing of geo-textiles are polymer type, fabric design and type of bonding. Polypropylene and polyester are the two most widely applied polymers in manufacturing of geo-textiles. Numerous geo-textiles fabric and fibre properties are critical for the performance of geo-textiles in the application fields. Thickness, weight (mass/unit area and flexibility are the important physical properties of geo-textiles. Two kinds of interactions are possible between soil and geo-textiles with mechanical and physical behaviors. Common causes of degradation in the geo-textiles are temperature, chemical, hydrolysis, biological, sunlight and polymer aging. Geo-membranes are impervious sheets of rubber or plastics and are always used as moisture or vapour barrier.
