Design and Development of Automatic Pneumatic Operated Sand Rammer Using Arduino

In manufacturing moulding is one of the important metal forming processes of manufacturing components for various applications in industry. By casting, process components of any size and shape can be made accurately. The defects in sand castings are a great problem in the foundry. Defects about more than 10% of castings are rejected. Automation in this field is necessary to improve the accuracy of the cast parts and will reduce defects of the product. Ramming is the process of pressing the surface of the sand with the help of a rammer; it is done after placing the pattern in a cope box and drag box to get uniform distribution of sand and uniformly distributed sand. Manually it is not possible to pack sand uniformly throughout the moulding box. Even if skilled labour is employed for ramming operation, the packing of moulding sand will not be uniform throughout the moulding box. There is a necessity to increase consistency and accuracy in sand ramming operations. So we are introducing a device that is the “Automatic Pneumatic Operated Sand Rammer”. This rammer is operated pneumatically. By using this device moulding sand will be packed evenly throughout the box. With this device manual effort will be reduced. It also reduces the lead time, which causes to increase in the production rate.
