The Impact of Training Program on Youth Livelihood Development by Save the Children International in Shebidino Woreda, Sidama Regional State, Ethiopia

To improve the socio-economic conditions of youth in Ethiopia, Save the Children International has been offering tailor-made training programs for the livelihood development of youths. Although the contribution of Save the Children International is significant to youth development, there seem fewer research documents in this area. Hence, this research was undertaken with the main objective of the impacts of training programs on youth livelihood development by Save the Children International, Shebidino Woreda, Sidama Region. The descriptive and empirical research design was followed. Primary and secondary data were used. By adopting a simple random sampling technique, 170 youth beneficiaries were selected as samples. For data analysis used descriptive and inferential statistics. Study finding shows youth under study have a positive perception towards the effectiveness of training in terms of training needs analysis, training objectives, trainers, competencies use of audiovisual aids, training methodology and prevalence of academic and non-academic environment. However they had negative perception towards program design. Youths also perceived highly the economic, well-being, and protection impacts of training programs of Save the Children International. Independent variables such as training content, training, medium of instruction, training duration, and basic ability of the trainee were positive significant influence on the effectiveness of the training programs at a 1% level of significance. Further, factors such as training objectives, trainers’ competency, use of audiovisual aids, motivation by trainers, and refreshments influence on the effectiveness of the training programs at a 5% level of significance.
