Abstract

Recurrent Clostridium difficile infection (rCDI) is defined as a relapse of CDI symptoms within 2-8 weeks of successful treatment of initial episodes. A study evaluated that the US burden of CDI is close to 5,00,000 infections annually, CDI is associated with 15,000 – 30,000 US death and excess acute care in patient cost alone exceed 4-8 billion dollars. A study done in 2017, estimates the prevalence of CDI as 20%-30% and in India as 15%-20% of patients taking Antibiotics. There are chances that CDI is an underestimated disease in Indian hospitals. The article aims at gathering relevant updated information of FMT, to establish Nurses' responsibility in FMT procedure, Preventive ways of CDI, to create awareness of Antibiotic-resistance bugs. Authors conclude that FMT alone doesn't do many favors, it should be combined with recommended antibiotics and FMT should be added into a standard treatment regimen but it is recommended to use FMT as the last hope of treatment for rCDI until the standard FMT products availed in medical markets. The best way to control C.difficle is prevention!
