Abstract

Background: Basic life support, are techniques that are needed to keep someone alive in a life threatening situations until medical help arrives. It is very important that the Nursing staffs and students are expected to know about Basic Life Support as they are frequently facing life threatening situations. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to identify the existing Knowledge and skill, to determine the effectiveness of simulation based training, to find out the significant co-relation between post-test knowledge and skill and to find out association of post test knowledge and skill score among the B.Sc. Nursing students regarding Adult Basic Life Support with their selected demographic variables. Methods: A Pre experimental study with one group pre test post test design was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Simulation Based Training regarding Adult BLS among 36 number of 3rd year B.Sc. Nursing students of College of Nursing, Berhampur by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected by using structured questionnaire and standardized checklist of AHA – 2015 guidelines. Results: Findings revealed that mean pre test and post test knowledge score was 14.88 and 24.75 and the mean pre-test and post test skill score was 7.11 and 18.33 respectively. There was positive correlation (r=0.61) found between knowledge and skill among the study samples. The “t” Value of knowledge and skill score were 19.19 and 27.35 respectively. No significant association was found between post test Knowledge Score and Skill Score when compared to demographic variables. Conclusion: Hence the study can be concluded that SBT is effective in increasing knowledge and skill regarding Adult BLS among B.Sc. Nursing students.
