Abstract

Wood and crop residue are used for heat generation in agricultural product processing. There is a huge potential to save fossil fuels and mitigate CO2 emissions by using solar cookers for agricultural process heating. The current study aims to thoroughly investigate low-cost solar power systems such as cookers to produce heat energy with or without TES. Experimental and theoretical techniques are used to analyze and enhance the performance to achieve a temperature in the range of 95 – 110oC. Only a few research investigations have been conducted on solar cookers using TES systems that use heat transfer lubricants. Since temperatures appropriate for frying and baking may be reached above the boiling point of water (100℃), heat transfer oils are particularly advantageous. Additionally, oil storage tanks are easier to construct since they don't require pressurization as water storage tanks do, which is more convenient and less expensive.
