An Analysis of the Energy Use, Energy Efficiency, and Energy Savings of Metal Forming Processes across Several Hierarchies

Emerging concerns in the manufacturing
sector include the reduction of environmental
impact and improvement of energy efficiency.
In addition to cutting, metal shaping is a
crucial step in the manufacturing process.
Because the employed metal forming press
has low energy efficiency, metal forming
requires a lot of energy. Even though
numerous literature evaluations have Due to
the significant differences the majority of the
research has centered on the energy efficiency
and energy reduction of machine tools,
particularly between cutting and shaping
machinery, leaving a gap in the evaluation of
metal forming operations. In the metal
forming business, energy efficiency and
conservation tactics still need to be promoted.
The inventive hierarchy of the metal forming
system was used in this review to establish the
interaction between the equipment, system,
and manufacturing process.Then, theories
and methods for modeling and estimating
current energy use were explored from two
angles. One is the analysis of process energy
for metal forming based on various
characteristics, and the other is the
monitoring and modeling of energy in metal
forming equipment. The hierarchy of the
metal forming system served as the
foundation for a discussion of the current
approaches and technologies aimed at
advancing energy effectiveness and energysaving benefits from the viewpoints of process
optimization, design, control, management,
and use of the equipment. As a result,
producers and managers may use this review
as a guide for making decisions to achieve
energy effectiveness and cost reductions at the
system level. Accurate energy models,
forming equipment control, and integrated
equipment, process, and scheduling
optimization are further key areas that
require attention.
