To Assess the Level of Stress among Caregivers of Psychiatric Patients in a Selected Hospital at Coimbatore

Stress among carers results from the mental and physical burden of providing care. Those who are not carers report substantially lower levels of stress than do caretakers. Several carers offer assistance or are "on call" practically constantly. This can occasionally translate into having little time for work, other family members, or friends. The quantity of care that their elderly, ill, or disabled family members need might leave some carers feeling overburdened. Although it might be quite difficult, providing care has tremendous benefits. Being able to look after a loved one is satisfying. Your partnership can take on new significance when you spend time together. This study's goal was to assess the degree of stress experienced by those who care for psychiatric patients in a particular Coimbatore hospital. A descriptive quantitative research design was adopted in this study. Purposive sampling techniques were used to select 60 caregivers from psychiatric patients. Tools Dr Stevan zarit caregivers Stress Self Assessment Scale was used to collect the data. Results of the results revealed that the level of stress score 44 (73%) had severe stress, 16 (27%) had moderate stress and none of them had mild or no stress. The mean value was 63.8 and the standard deviation was 9.4 for the level of stress among caregivers of the psychiatric patient at the selected hospital, Coimbatore. The current study demonstrated that mindfulness therapy was successful in lowering stress levels among those who care for psychiatric patients.
