Abstract

Test anxiety is a combination of physiological over-arousal, tension and somatic symptoms, along with worry, dread and fear of failure and catastrophizing that occurs before or during test situations. Nursing students experience a high level of stress and anxiety throughout their education. Researchers suggest that between 25 and 40 percent of students experience test anxiety. Therefore there is an urgent need to recognize and treat test anxiety. Many alternative modalities are available to reduce test anxiety. One of the techniques that could be used to reduce this problem is guided imagery. The objectives of the study were to evaluate the effectiveness of Video Assisted Teaching Programme on guided imagery on test anxiety and to find out the association between the pre-test levels of test anxiety of study subjects with their selected demographic variables. Pre-experimental One group pre-test and post-test was adopted. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 50 GNM students. Video assisted teaching programme on test anxiety was administered. Sarason test anxiety scale was used to collect the pre-test and post-test anxiety. The results revealed that the mean enhancement between pre-test and post-test was 4.36 and the obtained paired “t” value was 17.46 which was statistically significant The study concluded that the video assisted teaching programme on guided imagery was effective in reducing the test anxiety among the nursing students.
