A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Guided Imagery in Reduction of Stress among Patients with Selected Psychosomatic Disorder

Background: The stresses have an important influence on physical and psychological wellbeing of the patients. Health professionals will be challenged to design strategies that address management of psychosomatic disorder. Guided imagery is becoming popular for reducing stress. Therefore, investigator planned to conduct study. Study to assess the effectiveness of guided imagery technique in reduction of stress among patients with selected psychosomatic disorder Materials and Methods: One group pre-test and post-test design was used, with convenient sampling technique. Data was collected from 60 patients admitted in KIMS hospitals Bangalore. The pretest was conducted followed by using stress scale. Guided imagery technique was implemented and post-test was conducted after 7 days using same stress scale. Result: The pre-test assessment revealed that the overall pre test stress scores of patients was found to be 60.59% with mean +SD of 71.48+13.66 and the overall posttest stress scores was found to 23.05% with mean +SD of 27.59+7.06. There was significant association between pretest stress scores with gender, marital status and place of residence. Conclusion: The Overall findings of the study clearly showed that a guided imagery was significantly effective in reducing stress among selected psychosomatic disorder.
