Abstract

Opioid and barbiturates are the drugs that may be of natural or synthetic essence. These contain elements that are psychoactive in nature and alter the perceptual power of a person. It takes a person away from reality of abused. Misuse of these products is very common by abusers and addicts. Though these were used for some pain relief and solace but when used excessively or taken in bulk it can lead serious consequences. Poisoning of opioids and barbiturates cause toxicity and organ failure. Death is one of its complications after respiratory depression and arrest. The poisoning must be treated without bias and Counselling must be provided to client as and when required. The client and family must be made aware of causes and symptoms and mitigation of problem in anticipation. Mental health professional should be always contacted so that to keep client away from taking any extreme step
