Memory and Retention in Learning: An Overview

Memory is the process in which information and material is encoded, stored and retrieved in the brain. It is conscious storage and re-collection of data. Memory belongs to the central nervous system have 3 different classifications: short term memory, long term memory and sensory memory. The three different classification have specific and different memory storage and functions but each classification will play a equally important role in memory process. Sensory information: it is transferring the information and encoded in some certain way in the brain. Then it creates a memory representation. This unique coding methods of information creates a memory. Memory loss is forgetfulness or amnesia. If the person is not able to remember the past events, then it may consider as Amnesia.
