Keywords:
Career, Challenges, Education, Kuwait, NursingAbstract
As the nursing career in Kuwait suffers from being unattractive to Kuwaitis, this paper sheds light on the challenges of this vital profession as well as suggestions to face those challenges. Also, this paper provides proposals as to how to encourage Kuwaitis to flock into this profession. The biggest challenge that confronts the nursing profession in Kuwait is the pronounced shortage of Kuwaiti nurses in all departments of any hospital. The most important practical proposal to make this profession attractive is to boost the pay of nurses in Kuwait. Other explanations are also imperious. The paper stresses that nursing policymakers in Kuwait, as well as nursing education, need to provide a developed platform where the nursing profession should be espoused to improve retention. This is attained mainly through the work of changing the societal image of nursing within health care delivery.
