Case Management Style Among Nurses in Special Areas in a General Hospital

Abstract

Introduction: Case management is a system of patient care delivery that focuses on the achievement of outcomes within effective and appropriate time frames and resources. It focuses on an entire episode of illness, crossing all settings in which the patient receives care. Care is directed by a case manager who ideally is involved in a group practice. He/she is responsible for the assessment of patient and family, establishes the nursing diagnosis, develops the nursing care plan, delegates nursing care to associates, activates interventions, coordinates and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, and evaluates outcomes of care. Aim of the study: Study determined the level of effectiveness of the Case Management Styles of nurses in particular areas Methodology: This study utilized a descriptive-correlational approach to assess the level of efficiency of case management styles in the specialized areas Procedure: A transmittal letter was submitted to the Dean of Applied Medical Science Research Center for permission to enable the researcher to begin gathering data. Next was a letter of intent submitted to the Medical Director and the Chief Nurse of the research locale. Upon issuance of the approval to conduct the study, the researcher distributed the research tool. In the conduct of administering the instrument, the researcher personally handed into the respondent the checklist and provided instructions in the manner of completing the data needed. While providing enough time for the respondent to answer, the researcher stayed within the vicinity of the locale to ensure questions are adequately answered. Complete confidentiality was properly explained and understood.
