Prescriptive theory is also called as Situation-Producing Theory. It is a kind of theory that specifies what the nurse expert must do to achieve a prescribed goal. The prescription is the action that the nurse believes appropriate to accomplish the main purpose. Nursing is a helping art; the nurse provides sympathetic cares to those are in need of help. A prescriptive theory directs action toward a clear goal. This article describes how this theory can be applied in research.
