Abstract

Background: Breast self-examination is a screening method used in an attempt to detect early breast cancer. The method involves the woman herself looking and feeling each breast for possible lumps, distortions or swelling. The method should be done on a routine basis as it requires only 5 min to perform but less than 50% practice it regularly despite knowing. Nurses are in an excellent position to make use of many opportunities to encourage women to be breast-aware. Nurses' knowledge, their contact with women and their status as health professionals give the need for breast self-examination. Aim: to assess the Knowledge regarding Breast Self-Examination among adolescent girls (13-19)yr at Govt. Sen. Sec. School Mandi (H.P). Objectives -To assess the knowledge regarding breast self-examination among adolescent girls aged (13-19) years at selected schools of Mandi (H.P). -To determine the association between the level of knowledge regarding breast self-examination. Methodology: “A Descriptive Study to assess the Knowledge regarding Breast Self-examination among adolescent girls (13-19) yr at Govt. Sen. Sec. School Mandi (H.P).” sample size was 100 schoolgirl students by simple convenient technique. A Descriptive Approach was adopted for the study. The tool used for the study was a self-structured questionnaire. Results: The result shows that 87.05% have adequate knowledge, 13.0% have moderate knowledge, and 0.0% have inadequate knowledge. It was found that the mean value was 24.63, the Median score was 26, the maximum score was 29, the minimum score was 11, the range of score was 18 and the mean percentage was 82.10%.
