Assess the Knowledge and Attitude Regarding Technology Based Learning Among Nursing Students of a Selected College of Nursing, Alappuzha Dist. Kerala

Technology– based learning (TBL) consists of learning through electronic technology, including the internet, intranets, satellite broadcasts, audio and video conferencing, bulletin boards, chat rooms, webcasts and CD–ROM. Information Technology has the potentiality to promote the standard, safety, and proficiency of health care system. Besides nurses, students doing nursing courses also need to be well aware about online health information in order to aid patients and their family members to use authentic and appropriate information. Objectives: The purpose of the study was to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding technology-based learning among. Nursing students in a selected College of Nursing in Alappuzha district. Methods: The research approach adopted for this study was descriptive approach and the design used was non- experimental research design. The study sample consisted of 75 students currently studying in I, II and IV year B.Sc. Nursing using simple random sampling technique. The tools used for the study were Knowledge questionnaire on Technology based learning, Rating Scale to determine the attitude and Practice questionnaire to verify the usage of technologies in learning by the students. Results: The information obtained was organized and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics based on the objectives and hypothesis of the study. Regarding the knowledge level of the nursing students, 38 (50.67%) of samples had average level of knowledge, 15 (20%) had good knowledge and 22 (29.33%) of students had poor knowledge regarding technology-based learning. In attitude scores, 61(81.33%) of samples had high attitude towards technology-based learning and 14(18.67%) had moderate attitude. Conclusion: The study findings conclude by emphasizing the need for enhancement in knowledge and change in the attitude and practice of nursing students in use of advanced technologies in teaching – learning process and patient care.
