Jal Shakti Abhiyan

Abstract

The Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) is a time-bound, mission-mode water conservation campaign inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision on Jal Sanchay. The Abhiyan is implemented in two phases: Phase 1 for all States and Union Territories from July 1 to September 15, 2019, and Phase 2 for States and UTs receiving the retreating monsoon from October 1 to November 30, 2019. (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu). During the campaign, officers, groundwater experts, and scientists from the Government of India will collaborate with state and district officials in India's most water-stressed districts* to focus on accelerated implementation of five target interventions for water conservation and water resource management. Through asset creation and extensive communication, the JSA hopes to make water conservation a Jan Andolan.
