Energy internet is a new concept, which aims in evolving smart grids by integrating several forms of energy sources into a flexible and efficient grid. This review article comprehensively analyzes the utilization of internet of things to power grids and in turn to various smart environments, viz, smart cities, smart homes, smart meters and energy management systems. In short, this article explores the development of energy internet that is essential for the operation of smart city.
