Abstract

A micro-grid is an integrated energy system of distributed energy resources, consumer loads and energy storage devices. The main objective of this project is to establish a microgrid research laboratory center at Bahir Dar University by using microgeneration resources (solar array and wind turbine) and energy storage devices, battery banks). The system provides a total demand of 47.08kWh for the research center, and from the total energy 42.37kWh –which is 90%, mainly supplied by the photovoltaic array and the rest 0.47kWh by the wind generators, while 1250 Ah battery bank is used as backup units. All the microgrid components are sized and its detailed specification is done.
