Abstract

Foot over bridges provide passage for
pedestrians to cross the obstructions like
roadways, railways, rivers etc. The bridge is
designed and constructed with utmost safety
concerns. The failure of such bridges led to loss
of human life. Thus, proper structural audit and
maintenance is required at regular interval of
time to ensure the serviceability of bridge. A
case study of failure of foot overbridge near
CSMT railway station, Mumbai is considered
for the evaluation of factors responsible for such
failures. An existing foot over bridges located at
Indore was visually inspected, analysed,
designed and retrofitted as per latest codes to
avoid any such failure.
