Investigation on Swelling Behaviour of Expansive Soil with Different Admixtures

Abstract

Differential settlements, high swelling and shrinkage behaviour creates a way to analyze
expansive soil which can be used for the purpose of constructing buildings over it. Normally,
admixing technique was found to be an efficient ground improvement technique as it is
considered to be a simple method to improve the behaviour of weak soil. Our present study
describes the behavioral aspects of expansive soils mixed with pozzolanic materials such as
Rice Husk Ash, Quarry Dust and Flyash to improve the swelling behaviour of the expansive
soil. The main objectives of the present investigation are to assess the optimum usefulness of
waste materials as a soil admixture, and focused to improve the engineering properties of
expansive soil.
