Abstract

Marine conditions are the most aggressive conditions exposed to reinforced concrete. To provide proper repairs and rehabilitation measures, one needs to have a clear understanding of the distress mechanism in such environment and appropriate construction methods to be adopted. To have proper understanding of how repair system works it is required to understand what the factors the current system failed to control are. Once the factors are addressed the measures should be taken before starting of construction so that a good quality system/construction is achieved. Also the ill-oriented construction practices that fast-track the deterioration of structure should be evaded. This paper describes the various distresses and its mechanism associated with marine exposed environment.
