Automation Systems in Hospitals Using RFID Technology

Abstract

RFID is a technology that is being utilized in various commercial sectors, particularly the medical sector. This work aims to propose a clinical analysis laboratory automation system for a hospital. The initial version of this system stores patient data on contactless smart cards, which are also used to authenticate hospital staff members. For the proper identification of the patient who gave the samples, the suggested system also makes use of RFID tags adhered to containers holding patient-collected samples. This study describes the modeling of the system, illustrates a hospital laboratory workflow, and addresses security issues of data stored on smart cards.
