Abstract

This paper is about speed control of permanent magnet DC shunt motor using a buck
converter as chopper. The buck converter receives firing signals from the controller and
produces the output voltage accordingly which is used to maintain the speed of the DC motor
at constant speed. The closed loop control has two main loops, one is inner current control
loop and outer speed control loop. The controller used for closed loop control is PI
controller which is simulated using MATLAB(SIMULINK) software.
