A Study on Biometrics Keystroke Dynamics and its Applications

One of the marvelous inventions of mankind, the Internet, has revolutionized the computer and communication world like nothing before. Continuous access to resource and information has become an integral part of nearly every aspect of our lives. But sadly, with this increased access comes increased vulnerability to sensitive or public data. Without proper compact modular system that implements viable authentication in every layer, the security of sensitive data cannot be ensured. One of the most common techniques for valid user authentication is biometric keystroke dynamics. Several methodologies like continuous keystroke dynamics, behavioral biometrics in anomaly detection, password hardening based on biometric keystrokes etc. have been proposed and proved to be efficient benefiting for both the real time systems and the users. The objective of this discussion paper is to demonstrate an easier layout that highlights the performance level of the popular methods along with a bird eye view of the intricate mechanism of these methods so that users can select the one that is very much close to their individual requirements.
