Abstract

Throughout the world, groundwater is the most important for all living species as well as for sustaining the environment. The study Tirupur region is an industrial hub for the textile segment and forms one of the important export centers in India. The groundwater quality in Avinashi – Tirupur surroundings has been worsening quickly. The wide variety of textile enterprises and urban sprawl operations evolved in the pollution of the rock basin. To determine the quality of groundwater, fifteen groundwater samples from bore wells were collected and the important ion parameters are investigated along with pH and total dissolved solids. The physical and chemical parameters were evaluated up to the water quality standards. Tirupur base map is used in GIS to create thematic maps to show the distribution of various physical and chemical parameters of groundwater tested. The study area is belonging to alkaline nature. To improve the water quality, the construction of rainwater harvesting structures is a suitable measure. Thematic maps like geology, geomorphology, soil, and lineament were prepared and suitable areas are suggested.
