Every minute approximately one child dies from diarrhoea, which translates into over 1,400 children dying each day from readily preventable diarrheal diseases. Hence this study was carried out to determine the availability and extent of use of low osmolarity ORS and zinc supplementation in the management of childhood diarrhoea. The study was a descriptive cross sectional research design carried out among health care providers working in government-owned Primary Health Centres across the 27 LGAs of Imo State. A pre-tested structured questionnaire was used to collect data from randomly selected health care providers. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square test. Out of the 340 healthcare providers who participated in the study, only 63.8% of respondents had supplies of L-ORS and zinc supplementation available in their facilities which implies that a significant number of facilities (36.2%) had no supplies of L-ORS and Zinc supplementation available for the management of childhood diarrhoea. 74.4% of the respondents procured L-ORS and Zinc supplementation from Pharmacies to supplement the limited supplies from NGOs and the government. 88.5% of the respondents checked for the expiration of supplies to ensure the potency before use, and 82.6% of the respondents ensured regular stock checks to prevent stock-out-of supplies, this however did not translate to 100% availability across facilities. Majority of the respondents (nurses: 92.9%, CHEW/JCCHEW: 79.9%, CHOs: 86.5%; Health Assistants: 76.6%) always used L-ORS and Zinc supplementation in the management of childhood diarrhoea even though some of the care providers (nurses: 5%, CHEW/JCCHEW: 64%; CHOs: 55.8%; Health Assistants: 59.4%) still preferred the use of antibiotics. Also findings from the study demonstrated a higher potential for using L-ORS and Zinc supplementation (p-value = 0.03) between availability and use of L-ORS and zinc supplementation in the management of childhood diarrhoea, hence availability could translate to more use. Transitioning from a student to a recent graduate can be overwhelming and a "reality shock." Novice nurses face unique stressors that are not shared by other nurses, and they are currently most irritated by others' lack of consideration and concern. Aim: To determine Stressors among intern nursing students during their clinical internship training at Jouf university in Saudi Arabia. Design: Cross sectional descriptive research design was utilized in this study. Settings: Data were gathered from intern nurse students of Colleges of Applied Medical Sciences in Jouf university: Al-qurayyat, Sakaka Colleges during the academic years 1440-1441 and 1441-1442. Methods: 80 intern nursing students from collage of applied medical sciences were included in the study. The current data collected by using an online self-administered (Intern nurse’s stress questionnaire). Results: This result indicated that intern nurses perceived high to extreme level of stress. Among the three stress subscales; work management was perceived as the highest reported level of stress followed by interpersonal relationships. Conclusion: Moderate to high stress is perceived among large proportion of intern nurses. Major stressors of interns were related to work load management, followed by interpersonal relationship. Recommendations: A critical need to strengthen the internship program for nursing students at Jouf University to address stress, its sources, consequences, coping strategies, an internship program with well-defined policies and procedures should be facilitated through a collaborative effort between hospital and college administrators.</p> 2022-06-06T00:00:00+0530 Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Perinatal, Pediatric and Neonatal Nursing (e-ISSN: 2581-9011) Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice toward Cervical Cancer and its Prevention among Reproductive Age Woman 2023-12-04T17:03:42+0530 Dayananda Bittenahalli Omkarappa Lakshmamma V T <p>Context: Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among Indian women aged 15-44 years. Unfortunately, despite the evidence of methods for prevention, most of the women remain unaware. The studies have shown that women had lack of knowledge regarding risk factors, symptoms and prevention of cervical cancer. This study attempts to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practices related to cervical cancer and its prevention among reproductive age woman. Settings and Design: A descriptive Cross sectional study design was adopted for the present study. The study was conducted at selected PHC area, Bangalore. Materials and Methods: The simple random sampling technique was used. Hundred reproductive age women were recruited for study. Structured knowledge questionnaire, Rating scale and checklist were used to assess knowledge, attitude and practice respectively. The study involved females aged 15 to 45 years and the study excluded antenatal mothers, women diagnosed with cervical cancer and women who had undergone hysterectomy. Statistical analysis used: Data were analyzed using Statistical package for the social Sciences software package (Version 23). Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for the study. Results: The study findings had shown that mean age of respondents was 23±2.56 and majority (60%) of reproductive age group women had Poor knowledge, 23% of the respondents had average knowledge and only17% of them had good knowledge regarding cervical cancer and its prevention. With regard to attitude and practice, majority of respondents had unfavorable attitude (63%) and inadequate practice (76%) regarding cervical cancer and its prevention. Conclusion: The study concludes that women had suboptimal level of knowledge, unfavorable attitude and inadequate practice regarding cervical cancer and its prevention. There is need for mass education and creation of awareness to prevent cervical cancer. The birth of a baby is one of the most awe inspiring and emotional events that can occur in one’s life time. In India most the mothers are not aware of management regarding minor disorder of newborn (vomiting, diarrhea, physiological jaundice conjunctivitis, umbilical cord infection, skin rashes etc). Mother plays an important role in the identifying minor developmental deviation and early evidences of the disease process because she is constantly and closely watching her baby. Methodology: pre experimental (one group pretest and posttest) design was adopted for this study. The study was conducted at postnatal ward AIIMS Raipur with sample size of 30 primipara mothers. Non probability convenient sampling technique was adopted to select the sample. The data was collected by means of self-structured questionnaire to assess the knowledge among primipara mothers. Result: The mean score of pre-test was 15.36 and mean score of post-test was 22.4 and the mean improvement was 7.04, which is 45.83% of total primipara mothers. The paired ‘t’ value obtained for knowledge was 10.41 which was found significant at 0.05 level (p&lt;0.05) which is 2.05. S. Ashi <p>Background of the study: Pediatric IV cannulation is an integral part of modern medicine and is practiced in virtually every health care setting. Children have approximately half the number of usable veins than adults, but they have less accessible veins. Pediatric IV cannulation can be challenging. Nurses performing IV procedures in children should be skillful and knowledgeable in basic IV therapy applications. Simulation provides effective and efficient Knowledge and skills regarding pediatric IV cannulation. Objectives of the study are to assess the pre-interventional knowledge of staff nurses regarding pediatric IV cannulation, To assess the pre-interventional skills of staff nurses regarding pediatric IV cannulation, To evaluate the effectiveness of Simulation on Knowledge and Skills of staff nurses regarding pediatric IV cannulation. Conceptual framework adopted for the present study was based on the Ludwig Von Bertalanffy’s general system theory. Methodology: To achieve the objective of the study with a Quantitative Evaluative Approach Pre–experimental one group pre-test and post-test research design was adopted for the present study. The subject was selected by applying Non–probability purposive sampling technique to participate in the study. The tool prepared for data collection comprised of structured knowledge questionnaires and a Modified Intravenous Cannulation Skills Check List. Data analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics appropriate to achieve the set of objectives. Results: The pre-test mean Knowledge score was +12.1 and Standard Deviation (SD) ±3.14 whereas the post-test mean Knowledge score was ±16.9 and Standard Deviation (SD) ±2.88. The calculated paired ‘t’ value was (13.37) higher than the table value of (2.26) at a 0.05 level of significance. Hence H1 was accepted. The pre-test mean Skills score was +18.8 and Standard Deviation (SD) ±1.8whereas the post-test mean Skills score was ±16.9 and Standard Deviation (SD) ±2.88. The calculated paired ‘t’ value was (3.15) higher than the table value of 2.26 at a 0.05 level of significance. Hence H2 was accepted. Interpretation and Conclusion: The results of the study clearly indicated that, after the introduction of the Simulation technique, all the staff nurses (10)100% of them had adequate knowledge and skills scores which explains that the Simulation technique was effective to increase the knowledge and skills of staff nurses regarding Pediatric IV Cannulation. Since Nursing is a practice discipline. The findings of the study revealed that in-service education for nursing staff should always be a plan with Simulation which helps the staff nurses to develop necessary confidence and competencies in any given procedure.
